November 17, 2007. Dear Penny, Dan and Swim-in Zone staff, An extremely busy summer in the first year of my business kept my schedule more than full which is the major reason for the late correspondence. My reason for the letter is to give your some feedback on the Swim-in Zone program. As a former lifeguard and member of a rescue squad, I was involved in many emergencies that effected the decisions i would eventually make as a parent. One of the decisions that I made for my kids regardless of their preferences, is that they will learn to swim. We started Nicholas out at 3 years old in a private program at my gym. Eventually the program was discontinued and we enrolled him in another program in our town. Unfortunately, as we found out, not all programs are the same and he digressed. Through a friend we learned about Swim-in Zone. Initially, it was a bit of a shock because it was a much further drive and twice as expensive. But it is mandatory for my kids to learn how to swim properly, so we enrolled him and by this time his sister Kara was ready to swim as well. Right away there was a noticeable difference and we knew we were getting our monies worth. However, we had no idea exactly how much value we were getting as we would later find out. Our third child, Kelly 2, has only one goal in life right now and that is to keep pace with her two older siblings. This past summer we were attending a family picnic in which I was not present. I called my wife to check on the party. As we were chatting, her conversation instantly change from normal to panic and she hung up the phone. I had no idea what had just happened. I finally got her back on the phone and the story she told me shook me to my core, as she described to me "a parents worst nightmare". Nicholas, my 7 year old, was swimming by himself in the pool after everyone else had left for the birthday cake. When they left, the gate was accidentally left unlatched. Kelly who had wandered away from the pavilion let herself in. She decided that she was going swimming and walked down the steps into the shallow end. She made her way down the steps of the pool, stepped off the last step and she was in trouble. Nicholas was on the diving board at the other end of the pool and saw Kelly thrashing. Nicholas reacted. "Dad, I knew she was in trouble so I dove in and swam as fast as I could to get to her," he would later tell me. By the time my wife and others arrived at the pool Nicholas was standing on the deck with Kelly who was obviously shaken up but OK. Now when I tell this story there are obvious emotions one would expect, scared of what might have been, how fast things can happen, thankful for Nicholas, his quick thinking and heroic efforts, but the one thing that kept me awake a few times after this happened was that we made him LEARN HOW TO SWIM! Furthermore, that we didn't short change his swimming education and training either. I'm not writing this letter to boast the greatness of what Nicholas did, although I will never undermine it either. I simply want you to know the quality of instruction that your institute is teaching. I also thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the quality job that you and your entire staff are doing. Lastly, if you have parents what are considering joining Swim-in Zone and for whatever reason, "They just aren't sure", I welcome you to share this story with them. If sharing this story helps anyone to enroll their child in your program versus not, that's at least one more child who will know how to swim properly and protect themselves and maybe another child as Nicholas did. If you want to make this story an inclusion in your sales process I fully endorse such decision. As I reflect on this entire story, I can't help but think how devastating my life would have become if we had lost Kelly and I get all choked up thinking about the little hero we have in Nicholas. I also find it interesting that in all of my thoughts and reflections I never consider the money I paid. I know that I paid more than I was previously paying, but the dismal fleeting thought about money quickly vanishes and I am left with only one lasting thought, "My God what if I hadn't paid for Swim-in Zone". Swim-in Zone doesn't cost more because you cannot put a price on what we received. At the very least, please share this with your staff as I want to pass along my gratititude for them and their outstanding efforts as a team. Thank you again to your outstanding staff and training program. My best regards to all of you at Swim-in Zone. Sean Kreuz
December 2006. Miss Penny, It is hard to put into words the appreciation we have for you and your swim programs, but I will try. Two years ago we came to you, looking to do something active over the winter months and found so much more. Your parent and child classes are amazing. Both Sara and John became confident swimmers and I learned more than I ever could have imagined. I learned things about water safety and how to encourage my children to be better swimmers. This session along, John went from a child who would melt and cry upon entering the front door to a child who is extremely confident at swimming under the water. Matter of fact, who would have thought, I would spend class time reminding him to stay on top of the water, so he could hear what the next directions were. I am confident he will continue to grow in group lessons next class. Sara came to you 2 years ago also afraid to swim without holding onto me. She quickly became comfortable in the water and advanced to group lessons. Miss Lynn was a perfect first teacher for Sara. Her patience and understanding made the transition easy. She made sure to tell me what Sara learned each class and made me feel as if I did not miss a thing. (John and I were in a class at the same time, which made it hard to watch Sara.) Next was Miss Caroline. Again an amazing teacher. She helped Sara's swimming abilities and confidence grow even stronger. Also she made sure to stay with Sara and helped her rinse off after class, until I was done with John's class. I know this was above and beyond what she was expected to do. All of your staff is amazing. They take the time to learn the kids names and talk to them. It is truly a pleasure coming to your facility. It is clean beyond expectations, despite the abundant amount of children there. We look forward to lessons for both Sara and John in the future. We are lucky and blessed to have you in our lives. I cannot thank you enough for the confidence and swimming ability you and your staff have taught my children. Something they will have for a lifetime. Peggy Fuehrer. September 4, 2006. Dear Swim-in Zone, For years now, I have watched you teach my children a love of swimming that includes not only skill but trust of themselves and the water. I have been quite grateful for that and decided to literally take the "plunge" this summer and join my children. My week of Swim-in Zone swim lessons was life changing. I never realized how little I trusted the water and how much that impacted my own swimming. Despite being a self-taught swimmer, I always thought I was comfortable in the water. A week of lessons showed me how to "be" in the water when swimming. I learned to more thoroughly enjoy the motion and exercise of the stroke because the focus was no longer just to reach the end of the pool. It is not often that as an adult we are given the opportunity to learn something new about ourselves. I am so grateful I took the time to learn more about swimming and so grateful that it was with your unique guidance. How amazing that my children have never experienced the water any other way. Thanks for the lessons, Aimee Kessler I would like to thank you for alleviating my son's fear of swimming. He completed his lessons just prior to us leaving for Danville, and had a great time swimming in the ocean this summer. Your swimming and lesson facility is excellent. Regards, Patrick Walsh.
