President and Owner
Penny Pantano
Penny Pantano is known as Ms. Penny throughout the Lehigh Valley. She
has been teaching swimming in this area since 1978. She prides herself
on the fact that not only has she taught thousands of children to swim,
but she instills in the students a love of the water and the confidence
to explore the underwater environment. Many of her former students are
now bringing their own children to Swim-in Zone. Click here for Penny's resumé.
Penny first started teaching swimming as a lifeguard at Girl Scout camp while still in high school. She taught swimming during her breaks and days off while attending nursing school in Pittsburgh. After graduating with her R.N., marrying, starting her own family and moving to the Lehigh Valley, she returned to teaching swimming and hasn’t looked back. She has set up 5 swim lesson programs including the Lehigh Valley Aquatic Club, Ms. Penny’s Swim Lesson Program, Emmaus Aquatic Club, Meadow Pool Swim Club and Rodale Aquatic Center. She worked at the Emmaus Aquatic Club for 18 years as the Swim Lesson Coordinator and she coached the youngest age group of swimmers. She was at Meadow Pool Swim Club in Emmaus for 15 years coordinating the swim lessons and coaching the 8 & Under swimmers. She is a Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor Trainer and Water Safety Chairman for Safe Kids Allentown, Bethlehem Area. She is a certified (Level II and Level III) Infant/Toddler Instructor by the United States Swim School Association and National Outstanding Teacher awarded by the National Swim School Association in 1993. She was a canoe racer, canoeing instructor and a president of the Lehigh Valley Canoe Club.
Penny keeps up to date with the current ideas in learn to swim and baby swimming. She spoke at the World Aquatic Babies and Children conference in Brighton, England in October 2009. Penny loves teaching the babies and their parents because she has an opportunity to teach parents about water safety. She hopes that parents and their children will develop a healthy respect for water while learning how to be safe in, on and around it.
